Another perspective on Citcon 2016

I recently attended my first fully open-space conference, CITCON Europe, which conveniently happened in Cluj-Napoca (where I live) this year.
I had experienced a bit the open-space format at European Testing Conference earlier this year, in Bucharest, so I had some expectations set: I knew everyone would be able to propose topics, I saw how the “marketplace” would work, and I had used the law of 2 feet before.
However, some things surprised me about how the conference turned out, and I’d like to share them with you.

Meet us at CeBIT 2016!

We are back at CeBIT 2016! This time, Oana and Bogdan are by Alex’s side!

Our temporary address is Hall 6, Stand F48 or, if it is easier for you to find, the Romanian Pavilion. We are there until Friday, March 18!

EuroSTAR Test Lab 2015

This November I attended the EuroSTAR Conference. The conference takes place once a year in different cities of Europe, and gathers around thousand people interested in testing. I was involved in running the Test Lab. Further on I will write about the Test Lab, in general and this year’s EuroSTAR Test Lab in particular, and then in the second part I’ll share how I felt at the conference and my takeaways. I will also insert the names and twitter handles of testers connected to the topics of this blog post, because I think that being aware of the ideas shared outside our workplace bubble, plays an important role in our career development.

@adinnaplus Rapid Software Testing

The week starting with October 26th I attended the courses Rapid Software Testing (3 days) and Rapid Software Testing for Managers (1 day). It was brilliant! I feel I learned so many from both the course material and the trainer James Bach. Further on I’ll detail three things I learned and find valuable, and also mention other things I loved in this course.

Autumn Camp 2015: the event where the testers discovered the Uncaught OutOfCsíkiSörException

Tabăra de Testare (TdT), literally The Testing Camp, is a community built around testers and other professionals from the IT industry who share knowledge and learn from their peers’ experiences during monthly meetings. The community has four chapters in Romania and some Altoms – Oana, Alex, Adina and myself – are actively involved in its development, alongside a handful of other facilitators from Cluj, Bucharest, Timișoara and Iași.

The Article Challenge

Summer at Altom has been full of challenges. Some of these have showed up in previous posts on our blog. This post is an introduction to a challenge focused on writing and sharing of perspectives on testing matters that matter to us.

The idea was launched during one of our Friday lunches and the Altoms embraced it: let’s each propose one or several topics related to the testing experience that we consider significant/ would love to explore, write/ read about, then organize a poll, and write articles on the most-voted topics.

Be in constant learning mode

Summer holidays are here and thoughts might run away to beaches, sea or mountains. But, responsible as we are, we must also think about autumn, getting back to the offices and learn new things.

We, at Altom, think that everyone should learn something new everyday and also teach fellow testers new terms and techniques that could make their work flow easier. And we are doing this by organizing courses and conferences online and offline.
